Blot the stain immediately with a clean white cloth or paper towel
Do not rub the stain
Remove any solid material with a spoon or dull knife
Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water
Dampen a clean cloth with the solution
Blot the stain from the outside toward the center
Repeat with a fresh cloth until the stain lifts
Rinse the area with a cloth dampened with plain water
Blot dry with a clean towel
Sprinkle baking soda on the area if odor remains
Vacuum the area after it dries
Use white vinegar and water for tougher stains
Test any cleaning solution on a hidden area first
Use hydrogen peroxide only on light-colored carpet after testing
Apply a carpet stain remover if needed
Let the carpet dry completely
Repeat the process if the stain is still visible
