How To Patch Drywall?

Gather a putty knife, drywall patch, joint compound, sandpaper, utility knife, drywall tape, primer, and paint

Cut away any loose or damaged drywall around the hole

Trim the opening into a clean square or rectangle

Cut a drywall patch to fit the opening

Secure the patch with drywall screws or adhesive as needed

Apply drywall tape over the seams if required

Spread a thin layer of joint compound over the patch and seams

Feather the edges of the compound outward

Let the compound dry completely

Apply additional thin coats of joint compound as needed

Sand the patched area smooth

Wipe away dust

Apply primer to the patched area

Paint to match the surrounding wall
