Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings, watches, or tight items before swelling starts
Do not pop the blister
Do not peel off skin
Gently clean the area with mild soap and water
Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or aloe vera
Cover with a sterile, non-stick bandage
Change the dressing daily or if it gets wet or dirty
Keep the area clean and dry
Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed
Protect the blister from friction and pressure
Seek medical care if the burn is large, deep, on the face, hands, feet, genitals, or over a joint
Seek medical care if there are signs of infection such as redness, warmth, pus, or fever
Seek medical care if the blister breaks and the skin looks severe or the pain worsens
