Turn off power to the circuit
Set the voltmeter to continuity mode if available, or the lowest resistance range
Insert the test leads into the correct meter ports
Touch the probes together to confirm the meter works
Place the probes on the two points you want to test
Read the meter display
A low resistance or beep indicates continuity
A high resistance or no beep indicates no continuity
Remove the probes after testing
Restore power only after testing is complete
