Rinse the asparagus under cold water
Trim off the tough woody ends
Leave spears whole or cut into pieces
Boil salted water in a pot
Add asparagus and cook for 2 to 4 minutes until tender-crisp
Drain and serve immediately
Or steam for 3 to 5 minutes until bright green and tender
Or roast at 400°F for 10 to 15 minutes with oil, salt, and pepper
Or sauté in a pan over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes with oil or butter
Season with salt, pepper, lemon juice, garlic, or parmesan if desired
