How To Lay Carpet?

Remove old flooring, baseboards if needed, and all debris

Inspect and repair the subfloor

Make sure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level

Measure the room and add extra carpet for trimming

Install tack strips around the perimeter, leaving a small gap from the wall

Lay carpet padding and tape seams if needed

Trim padding to fit and secure it

Roll out the carpet and position it with extra overlap on all sides

Let the carpet acclimate if recommended by the manufacturer

Attach one edge of the carpet to the tack strips

Use a knee kicker to stretch the carpet toward the opposite wall

Use a power stretcher for larger rooms

Secure the carpet on all tack strips

Trim excess carpet along the walls

Tuck the carpet edges into the gap between tack strips and baseboards

Reinstall baseboards or install new trim

Install transition strips at doorways

Vacuum the carpet and check for wrinkles or loose areas
