Set the multimeter to DC voltage
Turn the multimeter on
Insert the black probe into COM
Insert the red probe into V
Touch the black probe to the battery negative terminal
Touch the red probe to the battery positive terminal
Read the voltage on the display
Compare the reading to the battery’s rated voltage
Test under load if needed
Replace the battery if the voltage is too low
