Pat the chicken dry
Season both sides with salt, pepper, and any desired spices
Heat a skillet over medium heat
Add oil or butter to the skillet
Place the chicken in the skillet
Cook until browned on the first side
Flip the chicken
Cook until the other side is browned
Reduce heat if needed
Cover the skillet if the chicken is thick
Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F
Remove the chicken from the skillet
Let it rest for a few minutes before serving
