How To Fix Garage Door Sensor?

Check the sensor alignment by ensuring both sensors face each other directly

Clean the sensor lenses with a dry, lint-free cloth

Remove any obstructions between the sensors (boxes, tools, spider webs, dirt buildup)

Verify the sensors are mounted securely and not loose or shifted

Adjust the sensor brackets so the indicator lights on both sensors match (usually both solid)

Inspect sensor wires for damage, cuts, fraying, or loose connections

Re-seat wire connections at the sensor terminals and at the opener control board

If wiring is damaged, replace the affected section or the full sensor wire run

Confirm power to the opener and that the control board is receiving power

Check the safety sensor indicator on the opener (if present) for correct status

Reset the opener by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in

If using a multi-button wall control, ensure it’s functioning and not stuck

Test the door by closing it and verifying the sensors stop/reverse behavior correctly

Replace the safety sensors if alignment and wiring checks do not restore proper operation
