Measure the piano, doorways, hallways, stairs, and truck space
Gather helpers or hire professional piano movers
Wear closed-toe shoes and gloves
Clear the moving path of obstacles
Close and lock the keyboard lid
Remove loose parts, pedals, and the music stand if possible
Wrap the piano in moving blankets and secure with tape or straps
Use a piano board or heavy-duty dolly
Lift with your legs, not your back
Keep the piano upright at all times
Move slowly and communicate clearly with helpers
Secure the piano with straps when loading into a truck
Place it against a wall and pad it during transport
Unload carefully and move it to the final location
Let the piano acclimate before tuning it
