Park both vehicles close enough for the jumper cables to reach, without letting them touch
Turn off both vehicles
Set both parking brakes and put both vehicles in park or neutral
Put on safety gear if available
Open both hoods and locate the batteries
Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign
Identify the negative terminal marked with a minus sign or ground point
Connect one red clamp to the dead battery positive terminal
Connect the other red clamp to the good battery positive terminal
Connect one black clamp to the good battery negative terminal
Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal ground on the dead vehicle
Start the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes
Try starting the dead vehicle
If it starts, let both vehicles run for several minutes
Remove the cables in reverse order
Keep the revived vehicle running to recharge the battery
If the vehicle does not start, wait a few minutes and try again
If it still does not start, check the cable connections or seek roadside assistance
