Gather tools and materials: garburator unit, mounting ring, sink flange gasket, mounting components, dishwasher inlet adapter (if applicable), plumber’s putty or gasket (as specified), wrench, screwdriver, electrical tools, wire nuts, electrical tape, Teflon tape, bucket, rags
Turn off power to the kitchen circuit at the breaker
Turn off water supply if needed for plumbing work
Disconnect the existing disposer unit (if replacing) or remove the sink drain knockout plug (if installing new)
Remove the sink flange and mounting components from the drain opening
Clean the sink drain opening and surrounding area
Dry-fit the garburator mounting assembly (mounting ring, gasket, and flange) to confirm alignment
Install the sink flange gasket and flange (use plumber’s putty only if your model requires it; otherwise use the provided gasket)
Insert the flange through the sink drain opening
Install and tighten the mounting ring and support components from below the sink
Connect the garburator to the mounting ring per manufacturer instructions
Tighten all mounting hardware securely
Connect the discharge outlet to the drain trap/pipe using the provided gasket and fittings
If connecting a dishwasher: install the dishwasher inlet adapter and connect the dishwasher drain hose to the disposer inlet
Connect the garburator to the existing plumbing with correct orientation and tight seals
Check for proper alignment and that no hoses or pipes are kinked
Connect electrical wiring:
Verify the switch outlet/control wiring is off
Connect disposer power leads to the supply wires using wire nuts (typically black to black, white to white, ground to ground)
Secure wires and ensure no contact with moving parts
Install the electrical cover plate
Confirm the unit is properly seated and that the impeller turns freely (use the manufacturer’s reset/turn method if applicable)
Run water into the sink
Turn on power at the breaker
Test operation by switching the unit on and running water
Check for leaks at the drain connections and dishwasher inlet (if used)
If leaks are found, shut off power, correct the connection, and retest
If the unit has a reset button, verify it is not tripped before testing
Clean up tools and debris and ensure all fasteners and covers are installed
