Walk around for 10–20 minutes
Try gentle stretching: knees-to-chest or child’s pose
Practice slow deep breathing or diaphragmatic breathing
Apply a warm compress or heating pad to the abdomen for 10–15 minutes
Take a warm bath or shower
Drink warm liquids (tea or water)
Sip peppermint or chamomile tea
Use over-the-counter simethicone as directed
Consider an antacid if gas is associated with heartburn or indigestion
If constipation is present, increase fluids and fiber gradually, or use an osmotic laxative like polyethylene glycol as directed
Avoid carbonated drinks, chewing gum, and drinking through a straw
Eat smaller meals and eat more slowly
Identify and avoid trigger foods (beans, lentils, broccoli, cabbage, onions, dairy if lactose intolerant)
Try an OTC lactase enzyme if dairy triggers gas
If symptoms persist, worsen, or include severe abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, blood in stool, or inability to pass gas or stool, seek medical care promptly
