Reduce gas-trigger foods (beans, lentils, cabbage, onions, broccoli, dairy if lactose intolerant)
Consider an over-the-counter gas reliever (simethicone)
If lactose intolerance is suspected, try lactose-free dairy or lactase tablets
If constipation is present, increase fiber gradually and fluids; consider a gentle stool softener or osmotic laxative as directed
Seek medical care urgently for severe or worsening pain, a swollen rigid abdomen, vomiting, fever, blood in stool, inability to pass gas or stool, or symptoms lasting more than 24–48 hours
