Gently gargle warm salt water (½ teaspoon salt in 1 cup warm water) 2–4 times daily
Use a water flosser on the lowest setting aimed at the tonsil area (avoid touching the tonsils directly if it causes pain)
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently brush the tonsil surface and back of the tongue
Try a gentle saline irrigation using a bulb syringe with warm salt water (do not insert deep into the tonsil)
Use cotton swabs to carefully press only the visible, protruding stone at the tonsil surface
Spit out loosened debris and rinse with salt water afterward
Maintain good oral hygiene: brush teeth and tongue twice daily, floss daily
Stay well hydrated and reduce smoking/vaping if applicable
Consider an alcohol-free antiseptic mouthwash if you have frequent buildup (follow label directions)
If stones recur often, talk to an ENT about evaluation and prevention options
Seek urgent care if you have severe one-sided throat pain, trouble swallowing/breathing, fever, rapidly worsening symptoms, or bleeding
