Do not microwave a whole egg in its shell
Crack the egg into a microwave-safe bowl or mug
Add a little water or milk if desired
Pierce the yolk with a fork or toothpick
Cover the bowl loosely with a microwave-safe plate or lid
Microwave on medium power for 30 seconds
Stir or check the egg
Microwave in 10 to 15 second intervals until cooked
Let it sit for 30 seconds before eating
Use oven mitts or a towel to remove the hot container
