Breastfeed frequently, at least every 2 to 3 hours

Hand express or pump a small amount of milk to soften the breast if needed
Feed from the affected breast first
Change nursing positions
Avoid tight bras or restrictive clothing
Rest and stay hydrated
Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen if appropriate and approved by a healthcare provider
Contact a healthcare provider if you develop fever, redness, severe pain, or flu-like symptoms
