Thread the loose end of the strap through the slot in the ratchet spool
Pull the strap through until it is snug
Open and close the ratchet handle to take up slack
Feed the strap back and forth through the spool as needed
Tighten the strap by pumping the ratchet handle
Stop when the load is secure and the strap is firm
Lock the ratchet handle in the closed position
Check that the strap is straight and not twisted
Verify that the hook or end fitting is properly attached
Release tension by opening the ratchet fully when finished
