Preheat the grill to medium-high heat
Peel back the husks if using husked corn, remove silk, then fold husks back over the corn
Soak husked corn in water for 15 to 30 minutes if desired
Brush shucked corn lightly with oil or melted butter
Season with salt and pepper if desired
Place corn directly on the grill grates or in the husks
Grill for 10 to 15 minutes, turning every 2 to 3 minutes
Cook until kernels are tender and lightly charred
Remove from the grill
Add butter, salt, pepper, or other seasonings if desired
Serve immediately
