How to Bleed Coolant?

Park on a level surface and let the engine cool completely

Turn the heater to maximum heat and fan on low

Open the radiator cap or coolant reservoir cap only when the engine is cold

Locate any bleed screws on the radiator, thermostat housing, or coolant lines

Fill the system with the correct coolant mixture

Open the bleed screw(s) slowly if equipped

Start the engine and let it idle

Keep the coolant level topped up as air escapes

Squeeze the upper radiator hose gently to help move trapped air

Watch for bubbles coming out of the bleed point or reservoir

Close the bleed screw(s) when a steady stream of coolant flows without bubbles

Let the engine reach operating temperature

Check that the radiator fan cycles on and the heater blows hot air

Shut off the engine and let it cool again

Recheck the coolant level and top off if needed

Install the cap securely once the level is correct

Inspect for leaks after bleeding is complete
