Check the baby’s temperature with a rectal thermometer if possible
For a newborn under 3 months old, call a doctor right away for any fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher
Do not give any fever medicine unless a doctor tells you to
Do not use cold baths, ice, or alcohol rubs
Dress the baby in one light layer
Keep the room comfortably cool
Offer breast milk or formula more often
Keep the baby hydrated
Remove extra blankets if the baby is overheated
Seek urgent medical care immediately if the baby is hard to wake, breathing fast, feeding poorly, has a rash, or seems very unwell
