Wait at least 24 hours after extraction before brushing near the surgical area
Brush the rest of your teeth gently the same day if your dentist allows it
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush
Avoid the extraction site for the first few days
Brush with light, careful motions
Do not spit forcefully
Do not rinse vigorously
Use a small amount of toothpaste
Keep the toothbrush away from stitches or the blood clot
Clean your tongue and other teeth normally but gently
After 24 hours, rinse gently with warm salt water if recommended
Resume brushing the extraction area only when your dentist says it is safe
Stop brushing and contact your dentist if bleeding starts again or pain worsens
