Check local building codes, permits, and property rules
Choose a healthy, mature tree with strong branches and a sturdy trunk
Inspect the tree for disease, rot, pests, and structural weakness
Select a safe height and location with enough clearance around the tree
Design the tree house and create a simple plan
Measure the tree and the intended platform size
Gather materials such as lumber, bolts, screws, brackets, joists, decking, railings, and roofing
Gather tools such as a drill, saw, level, tape measure, wrench, ladder, and safety gear
Build the platform frame on the ground if possible
Install support beams or posts if needed
Attach the platform to the tree using proper tree-house hardware
Keep fasteners secure but allow for tree growth and movement
Level and reinforce the platform
Install floor decking on the platform
Build the walls, railings, and entrance access
Add stairs, a ladder, or rope access with safety in mind
Install roof panels if the design includes one
Sand rough edges and secure all loose hardware
Add weatherproofing, stain, or sealant to exposed wood
Test the structure for stability before use
Inspect the tree house regularly for damage, loosening, or tree growth effects
Repair or replace worn parts as needed
