Open the Instagram app
Log in to your account
Tap the Messenger icon in the top right
Tap the new message icon
Search for the person’s username or select them from the list
Tap their profile to open the chat
Type your message in the text box
Tap Send
To reply to a story, open the story and tap Send message
To start a chat from a profile, tap Message on their profile page
To send a photo, tap the camera or gallery icon in the chat
To send a voice message, press and hold the microphone icon
To send a post, tap the paper airplane icon under the post and choose the person
To make a video or voice call, open the chat and tap the call icon
