How To Clean A Cutting Board?

Wash the cutting board immediately after use with hot water and dish soap

Scrape off food residue with a brush or sponge

For wood boards: scrub with a stiff brush and rinse thoroughly

For plastic boards: scrub with a sponge or brush and rinse thoroughly

For glass/ceramic boards: scrub with a sponge and rinse thoroughly

Disinfect (after washing): soak or wipe with a solution of 1 tablespoon unscented liquid bleach per 1 gallon of water for 1–5 minutes

Rinse thoroughly after disinfecting

Dry completely with a clean towel or air-dry upright to prevent warping or odors

For stubborn stains/odors: sprinkle with baking soda, scrub gently, rinse, then dry

For wooden boards: periodically rub with food-grade mineral oil after fully drying

Avoid soaking wood boards in water

Avoid putting wooden boards in the dishwasher unless the manufacturer specifies it’s safe

Avoid soaking or leaving plastic boards in bleach longer than recommended

Do not use abrasive pads that can gouge the surface

Store boards dry and separated from other damp items
