Turn off the garbage disposal at the breaker or unplug it
Run cold water
Pour 1/2 to 1 cup baking soda into the disposal
Pour 1 to 2 cups white vinegar into the disposal
Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes
Scrub the inside rim with a brush (optional)
Turn on the disposal and run cold water for 30 to 60 seconds
Rinse by running cold water for another 30 seconds
For odors, repeat weekly as needed
For tougher buildup, use a disposal-safe cleaning brush and run cold water
To flush out debris, run cold water and grind small amounts of ice cubes and a handful of rock salt (if your unit supports it)
After cleaning, run cold water for a few seconds after each use
Avoid pouring grease, oil, coffee grounds, eggshells, fibrous foods, and large bones into the disposal
If clogged, do not use the disposal; clear the jam manually or with a disposal plunger/auger
If the disposal is not draining properly or makes grinding noises, stop use and contact a plumber
