Wear gloves and eye protection
Remove the batteries
Dispose of leaking batteries properly
Wipe away loose corrosion with a dry cloth or paper towel
Mix baking soda with a small amount of water
Dip a cotton swab or toothbrush in the mixture
Gently scrub the corroded contacts
Wipe the area with a clean damp cloth
Dry the compartment completely
Use a pencil eraser or fine sandpaper for stubborn residue
Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to clean the contacts
Let everything dry before inserting new batteries
Replace with fresh batteries
Check for damage before using the device
