Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear
Put the rice in a large microwave-safe bowl
Add 2 cups of water
Add a pinch of salt if desired
Cover the bowl loosely with a microwave-safe lid or plate
Microwave on high for 10 minutes
Reduce to medium or 50% power and microwave for 10 to 15 more minutes
Check if the water is absorbed and the rice is tender
If needed, microwave in 1-minute intervals until done
Let the rice sit covered for 5 minutes
Fluff the rice with a fork before serving
