You generally cannot reliably cure bacterial vaginosis at home
Use prescribed antibiotics such as metronidazole or clindamycin if diagnosed by a clinician
Avoid douching
Avoid scented soaps, vaginal sprays, and perfumed products
Use mild, unscented soap only on the external vulva
Wear breathable cotton underwear
Change out of wet swimsuits or sweaty clothes promptly
Avoid sex or use condoms until symptoms clear
Do not use over-the-counter vaginal “cleanses” or home remedies
Consider asking a clinician about probiotic use
Seek medical care if symptoms are new, recurrent, severe, or during pregnancy
