Wash your hands
Clean the blister and surrounding skin with mild soap and water
Pat the area dry
Leave the blister intact if possible
Cover it with a sterile bandage or blister pad
Use a moleskin or hydrocolloid dressing to reduce friction
Wear roomy, breathable shoes
Change socks if they get wet or sweaty
Avoid activities that rub the blister
If the blister is large or painful, drain it with a sterilized needle while keeping the skin on top in place
Apply antibiotic ointment after draining if needed
Re-cover with a clean bandage daily
Watch for signs of infection such as redness, warmth, pus, or worsening pain
Seek medical care if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or the blister is infected
