Apply prescribed topical antifungal medication as directed

Treat athlete’s foot at the same time if present
Disinfect nail clippers, files, and shoes regularly
Change socks daily and wear breathable footwear
Avoid nail polish and artificial nails until the infection clears
Wear shower shoes in public wet areas
Continue treatment for several months as directed
See a doctor if the nail is painful, spreading, or not improving
Seek medical care sooner if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or a weakened immune system
