Unplug the freezer
Remove all food
Place towels or trays around the base
Open the freezer door
Let the ice melt naturally
Put bowls of hot water inside to speed melting
Use a plastic or wooden spatula to loosen ice gently
Do not use knives or sharp tools
Wipe up water as it collects
Clean and dry the interior completely
Plug the freezer back in
Return food after it reaches the proper temperature
