Wash your hands before handling the thermometer
Remove any probe cover or disposable sheath
Wipe off visible dirt or residue with a clean tissue or cloth
Clean the thermometer with soap and warm water if the manufacturer allows it
Disinfect the thermometer with 70% isopropyl alcohol or an approved disinfectant wipe
Keep the disinfectant on the surface for the recommended contact time
Avoid submerging electronic thermometers unless the manufacturer says it is safe
Rinse if required by the disinfectant instructions
Dry the thermometer completely with a clean cloth or air dry
Store the thermometer in a clean, dry case or container
Wash your hands again after cleaning and disinfecting the thermometer
