How To Do CPR?

Check responsiveness and call emergency services

Open the airway using head-tilt/chin-lift

Check breathing for no more than 10 seconds

If not breathing or only gasping, start CPR

Place the heel of one hand in the center of the chest on the breastbone

Place the other hand on top and interlock fingers

Keep arms straight and shoulders over hands

Compress the chest hard and fast

Push at a rate of 100–120 compressions per minute

Depth: about 2 inches (5–6 cm)

Allow full chest recoil between compressions

Minimize interruptions

If trained and willing, give 30 compressions then 2 breaths

Seal your mouth over the person’s mouth and breathe for about 1 second to make the chest rise

Give the second breath and then return to compressions

Continue cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths until help arrives or the person starts breathing normally

If you are not trained or not willing to give breaths, do hands-only CPR with continuous compressions at 100–120 per minute

If an AED is available, turn it on and follow the voice prompts

Continue CPR immediately after the AED analysis if a shock is not advised or after delivering a shock
