How to Do Plaits on Short Hair?

Start with clean, detangled hair

Apply a light leave-in conditioner or styling cream

Part the hair into small sections

Use a rat-tail comb for neat parts

Clip away sections you are not working on

Take a small section of hair at the front or side

Split it into three equal strands

Cross the right strand over the middle strand

Cross the left strand over the middle strand

Keep the braid close to the scalp for short hair

Add small amounts of hair as you braid if doing a French braid

Add hair only from the section you are working on

Keep tension firm but not too tight

Use edge control or gel for flyaways

Braid to the ends of the hair

Secure the end with a small elastic

Use mini elastics for very short ends

Repeat on other sections if needed

Try two braids, cornrows, or small plaits for shorter lengths

Use hair clips to hold tiny pieces in place while braiding

Mist hair lightly with water if it becomes dry

Practice on slightly damp hair for easier grip

Finish with a light hold spray if desired
