Put on thick gloves or use tongs
Rinse the cactus pear under cold water
Remove any remaining spines or glochids with a brush or knife
Cut off both ends
Make a shallow lengthwise slit through the skin
Peel the skin away from the flesh
Slice the fruit into pieces
Remove and discard the seeds if desired
Eat the flesh raw
Add the flesh to salads, smoothies, or desserts
Chill before eating for better flavor
