Turn off the toilet water supply valve
Flush the toilet to lower the water level
Hold the flush handle down if needed to drain more water
Use a plunger to push remaining water through the trap
Remove water with a cup or small container
Soak up the last water with towels, rags, or a sponge
Use a wet/dry vacuum if available
Refill the bowl with a small amount of water if needed for cleaning or maintenance
