Rinse your mouth with warm water
Save any broken tooth pieces if possible
Apply gentle pressure with gauze if there is bleeding
Use a cold compress on the outside of your mouth to reduce swelling
Avoid chewing on the chipped tooth
Eat soft foods and avoid very hot, cold, or hard foods
Cover sharp edges with dental wax or sugar-free chewing gum if needed
Take over-the-counter pain relief if appropriate and safe for you
See a dentist as soon as possible
Seek urgent dental care if the chip is large, painful, or affects the tooth nerve
Go to emergency care if you have severe bleeding, major swelling, or trouble breathing or swallowing
