Do not try to pull out a tooth yourself
If a tooth is loose, avoid wiggling or twisting it
Rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water
Eat soft foods and avoid chewing on that side
Use a cold compress on the outside of the cheek if there is pain or swelling
Take over-the-counter pain medicine only as directed on the label
See a dentist as soon as possible
If the tooth is knocked out, handle it by the crown only
If the tooth is dirty, rinse it briefly with milk or saline
Try to place the tooth back in the socket if possible
If you cannot reinsert it, keep it in milk, saline, or saliva
Get emergency dental care immediately
Seek urgent care if there is heavy bleeding, severe pain, swelling, fever, or trouble breathing or swallowing
