How to Get a Tampon Out That is Stuck?

Wash your hands thoroughly

Relax your body and breathe slowly

Sit on the toilet, squat, or put one foot on the tub or toilet seat

Bear down gently as if having a bowel movement

Insert one clean finger into the vagina and feel for the tampon string or tampon

If you find the string, gently pull it out

If you find the tampon itself, hook a finger around it and slowly ease it out

Try again after a short break if you cannot reach it right away

Use a small amount of water-based lubricant on your finger if needed

Do not use sharp objects or force

Do not keep trying if you feel pain, dizziness, or strong discomfort

Seek urgent medical care if you have fever, foul-smelling discharge, rash, vomiting, or feel very unwell

See a clinician if you still cannot remove it after trying or if you are unsure whether a tampon is still inside
