Wash your hands and the foot with soap and water
Sit in a well-lit area
Rinse the foot with clean water
If the glass is visible and sticking out, use clean tweezers to remove it gently
If the glass is embedded, do not dig into the skin
Apply gentle pressure around the area if it is bleeding
Use adhesive tape to lift out tiny surface shards
Soak the foot in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes if needed to loosen the skin
Clean the area again after removal
Apply antiseptic or antibiotic ointment
Cover with a clean bandage
Watch for redness, swelling, pus, increasing pain, or fever
Get medical help if the glass is deep, cannot be removed, bleeding will not stop, or you cannot walk
Get medical help if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or a weakened immune system
Seek urgent care if numbness, severe pain, or a large wound is present
