Drink plenty of fluids
Rest as much as possible

Sleep with your head elevated
Use over-the-counter cough medicine as directed
Treat congestion or postnasal drip if present

See a doctor if the cough lasts more than 3 weeks
See a doctor if you have trouble breathing, chest pain, high fever, or coughing up blood
