Drink 4–6 oz (120–180 mL) of fruit juice
Drink 4–6 oz (120–180 mL) of regular soda, not diet
Take 3–4 glucose tablets
Take 1 tablespoon of sugar, honey, or corn syrup
Eat 5–6 hard candies
Eat 1 tablespoon of jam or jelly
Recheck blood sugar after 15 minutes
Repeat fast-acting sugar if blood sugar is still low
Follow with a snack containing carbohydrates and protein if the next meal is more than 1 hour away
Seek emergency help if the person is confused, unconscious, having a seizure, or cannot swallow
