Gather the drain kit, plumber’s putty or silicone, adjustable wrench, pipe wrench, bucket, and towel
Turn off the water supply if needed and clear the area under the sink
Place a bucket under the drain area
Remove the old drain pipe and clean the sink drain opening
Roll plumber’s putty into a rope and place it under the drain flange, or apply silicone if required
Insert the drain flange into the sink drain opening from above
From below, install the rubber gasket, washer, and locknut onto the drain body
Tighten the locknut until the flange is secure
Wipe away any excess putty or silicone from the sink
Attach the tailpiece to the drain body
Connect the P-trap to the tailpiece and wall drain pipe
Align all fittings so the pipes fit without strain
Hand-tighten all slip nuts, then snug them with a wrench if needed
Fill the sink with water and check for leaks
Tighten any leaking connections
Run water again and confirm the drain works properly
