Turn off the water supply to the shower
Plug the drain to prevent losing small parts
Remove the shower handle or trim plate
Inspect the cartridge, valve stem, washer, or O-rings
Tighten any loose retaining nut or screw
Replace worn or damaged washers
Replace cracked or worn O-rings
Replace a faulty cartridge if needed
Clean mineral buildup from valve parts
Reassemble the shower fixture
Turn the water back on
Test for leaks and dripping
Replace the showerhead if the drip is from the showerhead
Use plumber’s tape on threaded connections if needed
Call a plumber if the leak continues
