Gather tile, thin-set mortar, grout, spacers, trowel, level, tape measure, tile cutter, sponge, bucket, and safety gear
Prepare the wall by cleaning it, removing loose material, and repairing any damage
Ensure the wall is flat, dry, and structurally sound
Mark a level reference line for the first row
Dry-fit the tiles to plan the layout and minimize small cuts
Mix the thin-set mortar according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Apply mortar to a small section of the wall with a notched trowel
Press tiles into the mortar with a slight twist
Insert spacers between tiles to keep joints even
Check tiles frequently for level and alignment
Cut tiles as needed for edges, corners, and outlets
Allow the mortar to cure for the recommended time
Remove spacers after the mortar has set
Mix and apply grout into the joints with a grout float
Wipe excess grout from the tile surface with a damp sponge
Allow the grout to cure
Apply caulk to movement joints, corners, and edges if needed
Clean the tile surface after curing
Install trim, outlet covers, or other finishing pieces if needed
