Park both vehicles close enough for the jumper cables to reach, but do not let them touch
Turn off both vehicles, remove the keys, and set the parking brakes
Put both vehicles in park or neutral
Open the hoods and locate the batteries
Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign and the negative terminal marked with a minus sign or ground point
Connect one red clamp to the dead battery’s positive terminal
Connect the other red clamp to the good battery’s positive terminal
Connect one black clamp to the good battery’s negative terminal
Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal ground on the dead car away from the battery
Start the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes
Try starting the dead vehicle
If it does not start, wait a few more minutes and try again
Once the dead vehicle starts, keep both vehicles running
Remove the cables in reverse order
Let the revived vehicle run for at least 15 to 20 minutes
Drive the vehicle to help recharge the battery
Replace the battery if it repeatedly fails to hold a charge
