Park both vehicles close enough for the jumper cables to reach, but do not let them touch
Turn off both vehicles
Put both vehicles in park or neutral and set the parking brakes
Open both hoods and locate the batteries
Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign and the negative terminal marked with a minus sign
Attach one red clamp to the dead battery’s positive terminal
Attach the other red clamp to the good battery’s positive terminal
Attach one black clamp to the good battery’s negative terminal
Attach the other black clamp to an unpainted metal ground on the dead car, away from the battery
Start the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes
Try starting the dead vehicle
If it starts, keep it running
Remove the cables in reverse order
Keep the jumped vehicle running for at least 15 to 30 minutes
If the vehicle does not start, wait a few minutes and try again
If it still does not start, call for roadside assistance
