Chill a mixing bowl and beaters
Add 1 package of instant pudding mix to 1 cup cold milk
Whisk until slightly thickened
Fold in 1 tub of thawed Cool Whip
Mix gently until smooth
Add vanilla extract if desired
Add powdered sugar if a sweeter, thicker frosting is wanted
Chill before using
Spread on cake, cupcakes, or dessert bars
