Gather supplies: paper (square sheets), scissors, glue or tape, pencil, ruler (optional)
Cut paper into square sheets
Fold the square in half diagonally to make a triangle
Fold the triangle in half again to make a smaller triangle
Unfold once to get marked fold lines
Fold along the marked lines to form a smaller triangle with creases
Make evenly spaced cuts along one edge (do not cut through to the end)
Fold the paper back into a shape so the cut sections overlap
Glue or tape the overlapping sections to form one pointed “arm”
Repeat to create multiple identical units (typically 6 or 12 depending on the star style)
Arrange the units into a circle
Glue or tape the units together at the base points
Press gently until set
Fluff and adjust the points
Optional: punch a hole at the top and add string or ribbon for hanging
